The Language

I'm afraid my attempts at Polish are doing me about as much good as I thought / feared they would - I'm great at reading signs and knowing what all the stores are, and I could probably form a competent question with the aid of my Berlitz book, but I would be out of luck trying to deal with an answer of any sort...

[ words of wisdom for the next group: ] if you haven't worked on your Polish, you will probably feel really dumb in the restaurant. At least learn the categories. I write this as I am sitting in the restaurant feeling really stupid for trying to speak Polish - I think I just told the waiter that he doesn't speak Polish very well... aaarrrgh...

Monday...

...one thought did cross my mind today: even after we get back, I bet I'll be "hearing" Polish in my mind for a week or two. The language really grabs you, even if you don't know most of what's being said...
